Academic Background
The experience of DerMap partners can be validated with many publications on national and international journals and with the participation to a number of projects funded by the Region, the State and the European Community.

Regional Project “Experience Center for Biodiversity, Regional Network for the Education to Biodiversity” (web: http://www.units.it/~biologia/ricappl/biodiversita/Progetto_home.htm ). This project was numbered among the “Strategic Projects of national importance - section 5, Preservation and Development of natural heritage and Biodiversity” scheduled in the Environmental Protection Plan (art.2, c.106, Law 23 December 1996, n.662 and 7, Law 8 October 1997, n. 334), approved and funded by the National Commission within the programme: “Biodiversity project - Environmental Education of youth”, regulated by the Ministry’s Decree GAB/DEC/946/99 on 28 July 1999 and commissioned by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia to the Department of biology of the University of Trieste. Project funded by the European Community within the FP6 (Contract No. GOCE-CT-2003-505376) on genetic and specific biodiversity of the taxa in the sub-alpine and alpine region of the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains.

Project “ARIES - Fishing project SFOP. Recommendations for a long term plan for the management of the coastal strip in the Gulf of Trieste”. Generation of thematic maps and identification of the selected areas with differential GPS systems (sub-metric precision). Project for the analysis of “Quality and state of preservation of habitats in Friuli Venezia Giulia and development of a methodology for environmental impact and incidence assessments”. Project for planning geographic databases, processing models and geographic information systems funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Project “Mi.P.A.F. n. 6-C-71. georeferencing of natural mollusc shoals or shellfish farms, with special attention to Tapes philippinarum cultures (Adams and Reeve, 1850)”. Development of a geographic database with transposition of historical and current geographic digital data. Project for “A preliminary identification of suitable areas for clam cultures in the Marano and Grado lagoon”. Project for the acquisition of sub-metric points with a GPS device and generation of thematic mapping with the implementation of vector and raster data, funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Project for the “Investigation into a suspected pollution of the seabed close to the draining of the plant run by the Lagoon Purification Group Ltd (Consorzio Depurazione Laguna Spa)”. Project engaged by the Department of Geological, Environmental and Marine Science - University of Trieste, that established a cooperation for determining macrobenthos samples and processing data.

Project for a “Study on benthic population in the Regional Natural Reserve of Valle Cavanata (Grado)”. Project funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Natura2000 sites (code IT3320037)”. Consulting service for ALMAR Co-op.
